I wanted to shift gears a little bit because you had mentioned as well while doing the presentation that we are going be introduced to a new order. ![]() MMORPG: I’m sure that’s going to create a lot of conflict across the border which would be great for sides quests as well. So as you kind of explore the world you get to see both sides of that argument. Queen Ayrenn has opened the borders because she wants to bring economic wealth and prosperity to all the high elves, that's why she started the Aldmeri Dominion. Rich: Sure! No main story spoilers! At this point in time, Queen Ayrenn has opened the borders So it is no longer a safe haven, or at least that what some people on the Island often think, as place to pursue their interests. What's changed storywise for the elves? Again without giving away any spoilers. Traditionally Summerset has always been this very exclusive place for the high elves and things like that. So with that can you kind of give us a little bit of the story background as to how this all happened. MMORPG: I think that would be pretty incredible from a creative standpoint. Just being able to go in and take the Crystal tower, summerset and pick out Cloudrest and actually show players what those look like. It had a really large part in setting the tone for the remainder of the series. With arena it had, it was the start of things. In summerset I think we done a really good job of that. Kind of going through this treasure trove of lore and story and picking out the relevant and important parts. I like to think we have gotten pretty good at it over the years. What was it like for you as a creative team to go back there and try to, in a lot of ways recreate and reimagine what that worlds was like? How was that for you guys? MMORPG: So with that I mean it's been years, as in 1994, in Arena, since we got to see Summerset. It is more high magic and I think they are really going to be impressed with the architecture and the overall environment. ![]() So What players are going to get to see here kind of changes the dial a little bit it is more high elven fantasy. They devote themselves to the study of magic and the study of knowledge. And Summerset absolutely is its the home of the High Elves. So Elder Scrolls isn't traditionally very high fantasy, very high magic. Rich: Summerset affords us the opportunity to do something a little bit different. The first question I really wanted to ask is why did you go back to Summerset? So I wanted kind of follow up a little bit, we have had a little bit of preview time, you gave us a great overview of what's coming out but I wanted to spend a little time diving a little bit more into story. I’m Super excited to spend some time picking you brain about the new Summerset Chapter that’s coming to elder Scroll online. MMORPG: Hey Everyone welcome to this exclusive interview with Rich Lambert, the Creative Director for Elder Scrolls Online. ![]() Other manufacturers reject displays according to the number of total defects, the number of defects in a given group (e.g., one dead pixel or three stuck sub-pixels in a five-by-five pixel area), or other criteria. Displays meeting this standard are deemed Class I. Some manufacturers have a zero-tolerance policy with regard to LCD screens, rejecting all units found to have any number of (sub-)pixel defects. ![]() The number of faulty pixels tolerated before a screen is rejected, is dependent on the class that the manufacturer has given the display (although officially described by the ISO 13406-2 standard, not all manufacturers interpret this standard the same way, or follow it at all). ![]() ![]() In LCD manufacture, it is common for a display to be manufactured with several sub-pixel defects (each pixel is composed of three primary-colored sub-pixels). These pixels may only show up using certain applications, or they may be on all the time. Any given pixel will stay red, blue, or green and will not change when attempting to display an image. This is usually caused by a transistor that is getting power all the time (VA/IPS) or not getting any power (TN) and is therefore continuously allowing light at that point to pass through to the RGB layer. Stuck sub-pixel Ī stuck sub-pixel is a pixel that is always "on". Hardware manufacturers and distributors claim that TAB faults, as opposed to other physical defects found in an LCD, do not allow for repair. The horizontal failure runs from edge to edge the vertical failure runs from top-to-bottom. This causes a horizontal or vertical black line to appear on the display while the rest of the display would appear normal. If these connections were to fail, the effect would be that an entire row or column of pixels would fail to activate. TAB faults require the replacement of the LCD module itself. This failure is often caused by horizontally flexing the chassis (e.g., while wall-mounting or transporting a display face up/down) or simple failure of the adhesive holding the TAB against the glass. If an LCD is subjected to physical shock, this could cause one or more TAB connections to fail inside the display. TAB is one of several methods employed in the LCD-manufacturing process to electrically connect hundreds of signal paths going to the rows and columns of electrodes in layer 6 (the transparent electrode layer) in the LCD to the video integrated circuits (ICs) on the driver board that drives these electrodes. Tape automated bonding fault Ī tape automated bonding fault ( TAB fault) is caused by a connection failure from the TAB that connects the transparent electrode layers to the video driver board of an LCD. This allows all light to pass through to the RGB layer, creating a bright white pixel that is always on.Ī partial sub-pixel defect is a manufacturing defect in which the RGB film layer was not cut properly. Note: Must be viewed at full size.Ī bright dot defect or hot pixel is a group of three sub-pixels (one pixel) all of whose transistors are "off" for TN panels or stuck "on" for MVA and PVA panels. Hundreds of hot pixels appear in a 32-minute long exposure photograph taken in virtual darkness. That’s all we really need to know in order for everything else to make sense. We know that Mama Tattletail is attacking the child protagonist of the game ergo, it’s likely that Mama Tattletail was previously banned for the same behavior. I’m willing to forgive this inconsistency, though, because I don’t actually think it’s integral to understanding the story. Instead of continuing with, “I heard she was recalled after she ate a kid’s eyes out,” the paragraph in question simply ends after, “Or will Mama Tattletail find her baby and hunt you down first?” According to a video by YouTuber ProdCharles, who has been quite prolific in his Tattletail coverage and analysis, this detail was originally written on Tatteltail’s Steam page: I’ve also heard several YouTubers and other folks who have taken an interest in the nuts and bolts of the game’s story make reference to rumors that a Mama Tattletail ate a kid’s eyes. The timeline, as I discovered, matters.įor what it’s worth, though, the game does not actually explain why Mama was banned, despite the product copy stating, “I’m pretty sure I know why.” I assume it’s because she started attacking kids that’s what we see her do in the game, so presumably, it’s these murderous tendencies that caused her to be recalled and banished to the dark recesses of history. Mama Tattletail wasn’t banned a few months before the start of the game she was banned a few years before the start of the game. “It was SO creepy, right? There’s not much reference online, but the original version, Mama Tattletail, was recalled years earlier… and I’m pretty sure I know why.” “Who remembers Talking Tattletail?,” the game’s description begins. ![]() That piece of information is this: According to Tattletail’s Steam page, Mama Tattletail had been taken out of both circulation and production long prior to the events of the game. That was lazy analysis on my part, though (I really liked that theory, you guys), so eventually I got over myself and revised my theory, figuring out how this piece of information fit in. I’ll admit that initially, I hadn’t caught this little tidbit indeed, by the time I finally noticed it, I had already started to put together a theory (one that involved Mama Tattletail having been banned just two months prior to the game’s starting date)- and because the information it reveals made part of that theory collapse, I was kind of tempted to ignore it as product copy that was once relevant at some point during development, but wasn’t really anymore. Let’s start with Tatteltail’s product copy as seen on its Steam page. This, I think, is where the game truly shines clues have been carefully dropped throughout it (and elsewhere) that tell us a great deal, if only we look closely enough to find them. But the bigger question - the bigger story - is about why Mama Tattletail was banned, and exactly what happened to set off the events seen in Tattletail. That much is apparent from the game’s plot on the most surface of levels. I was in high school by the time the first iteration of the Furby was released, so, due to having aged well out of its demographic by the time it arrived, I missed that particular It Item toy train a few years earlier, however, I was exactly the right age for the Tamagotchi’s original release, so I understand both the appeal and the horror of taking care of a pet that looks real, but isn’t - which, of course is what grounds Tattletail’s story.Īt its core, Tattletail is a classic killer robot tale. You play as a child thought to be between around eight and 10 years of age, first unwrapping their Christmas present - a Baby Talking Tattletail, produced by fictional toy company Waygetter Electronics (also the name of the development team who created the game itself) - early, then trying to survive until Christmas morning as they’re menaced by a bigger, scarier version of the Furby-like toy, which was previously banned for reasons unknown: Mama Tattletail. 28, 2016, Tattletail takes place over the course of several nights leading up to Christmas 1998. Released with no prior announcement or any sort of fanfare on Dec. It took a lot of research and a lot of thinking, but here’s what I’ve got. I’ve got a pretty solid theory about all that. ![]() ![]() Unlike IMAX, however, ScreenX isn’t seamless. If a standard cinema screen isn’t enough for you and you need something extra to transport you to that world, this does the job very nicely. Considering the work involved, the price is reasonable: ScreenX tickets cost £3 more than usual. My field of view was entirely filled with shots of the ocean, which naturally took me closer to feeling like I was part of the film. With the picture extending past the sides, it is a genuinely immersive experience. There are inevitable similarities with the super-sized IMAX format. My demonstration used footage from The Meg, 20 minutes of Jason Statham fighting a massive shark. In the UK, it is launching with Ant-Man and the Wasp, The Meg, and The Nun. ScreenX was first launched in 2015 and has featured such titles as King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Black Panther. Special fabric is lined on the walls to keep colours consistent, although that won’t hide the fire exit signs. The main picture uses one but the wings need four. The combined image is then fired out of five projectors. They are stitched together using the clever ScreenX software. Movies arrive at the cinema in two digital files (most cinemas no longer use reels of film): one for the standard film, the other for the sides or ‘wings’. Only this isn’t just light – it’s proper video footage, composed, filmed and edited at the same time as the standard theatrical material and subject to the same CGI and colour grading efforts. It’s a similar idea to the Ambilight system on Philips TVs, which fill your peripheral vision with light. That’s a 270-degree field of view, designed to fill up your peripheral vision – theoretically making the picture more immersive. ScreenX presentations beam additional footage on the walls to the left and right. It displays the same film and format as what you’ll eventually see on Netflix. How does three-screen viewing work? The middle one is like any cinema screen. I was invited to check it out ahead of its public opening today. The first one in the UK was just installed at the O2 in North Greenwich, London. ScreenX has arrived in the UK, and it’s a multi-projector cinema experience that has you looking at three screens instead of one. If you’ve ever watched a movie and wondered what’s just out of frame, you’re in luck. |
